(Also, to me at least, "lighting bolts" coveys a slightly scientific view of the world, while "thunderbolts" conveys a more religious/magical view of the world. Thunderbolts...
"Thunderbolts" can be used, or (and this occured to me only after I committed the edit) you could say "bolts of lightning", in which case you should probably change "hurl" to "cast" or "shoots". (Also, to me at least, "lighting bolts" coveys a slightly scientific view of the world, while "thunderbolts" conveys a more religious/magical view of the world.
