It's almost impossible to know the truth, buried as it is in time, however all tales agree on one point: the palace was sealed off by a [[guardians|guardian]] centuries ago and Déméchrelle was put to sleep. Since then, Déméchrelle lies among what is rumored to be piles of fantastic treasure, guarded by a legion of [[Fauna#Wandering Nightmare|Wandering nightmares]]. Those minions are actually part of her and are watching over her slumber, attacking any intruders who dare to enter the maze. When the Queen gets hungry though, trespassers might find the large halls of the derelict palace strangely calm and quiet and, find themselves subtly guided deep in the maze, to the royal chamber where Déméchrelle sleeps and then being fed to the sleeping giantess by her minions. Déméchrelle is also said to have created [[Legends#Five Eyes, the Devourer|Five Eyes, the Devourer]], centuries ago.
