Background

Isham is not a native Felaryan. He was a playwright for a smallish theatre company on a technologically developed world. While travelling through Felarya on Felarya Express, he was captured by the giantess Milly. She spared him, upon hearing that he wrote stories, and held him captive instead, excited at the prospect of hearing new stories.

Their relationship was understandably difficult at first. Isham not only resented his captivity, but was highly critical of Milly for capturing and eating other humans and intelligent beings. When Milly captured a young woman called Peana, left her a while in Isham's cage and then ate her, Isham refused to write. Recognising she had upset him, Milly apologised, sincerely, and promised not to bring home any more people as food. Accepting the apology, and troubled by the giantess' kind nature, Isham resumed writing. The two slowly began to appreciate each other. Two weeks later, when giantess Jade offered to free him, he surprised himself by choosing to stay with Milly. She released him from his cage, and he remained in her hut freely. They began to develop a sincere, though sometimes difficult, friendship.

Eventually, Isham decided he could not remain in the home of someone who ate people, even if she no longer did it in front of him. He settled, instead, in Jade's Safe Harbour - where he made new friends, including a young human woman called Elia. He remains friends with Milly nonetheless, and she visits him now and then.

Personality

Isham's "string of luck"

Since arriving in Felarya, Isham has undergone a series of near-lethal experiences, most often surviving through blind luck.

  • He was one of only five survivors of his Felarya Express flight, whose passengers were devoured in a series of predator attacks. He had the comparative good fortune to be captured by Milly, who took a moment to ask him about himself, and decided he was worth more as a story-teller than as a quick mouthful of food.
  • His second brush with death occurred when Milly collapsed in the forest, suffering from acute food poisoning, and sent him to her nearest acquaintance for help - the naga Vivian. Vivian used her magical charms on him before he had time to speak, seducing him and eventually eating him. He had already passed out in her stomach, his body partially burnt by acid, by the time Vivian was informed of her error. Assuming he was already dead, Vivian initially decided to finish digesting him, before changing her mind and vomiting him - barely alive. He was subsequently healed by the naga Ajab.
  • Shortly after he had settled in Safe Harbour, the village was attacked by a male giant intent on destroying it. The village men, Isham included, stood their ground, preparing to sacrifice themselves so that the women and children could flee. They were ultimately saved by Jade.
  • Peril came from the child giantess Tanny next. When she walked up to Safe Harbor, and he approached to greet her, she picked him up and put him in her mouth, intending to eat him. Jade made her spit him out.
  • A short while later, he was caught by the naga Malika close to the village. Although she did not eat him (due to him being one of Jade's villagers), the lustful naga did make use of him to satisfy... another facet of her appetite.
  • Most recently, a magical watch swept him away to a distant swamp, where he was almost eaten by a giant frog, then by a naga, before becoming trapped in the slime of giant slug girls Normeda and Maasma, who (after some hesitation on Normeda's part) decided to befriend him rather than eat him.

  • Isham belongs to Frenchsnack.
